AI is hot right now, and I’m only scratching the surface of how it can make life easier. If I had to give one piece of advice to full-time working parents, it would be this: efficiency. If you want to keep your sanity, you have to figure out how to be efficient.
I’m Type A, which means routine matters to me. When life shifts and more gets piled on, I shift too. I adjust, streamline, and keep hunting for ways to save time, because let’s be honest, there are only so many hours in the day.
My Meal Planning Process
In our house, I handle the weekly menu and meals. My husband and I split grocery shopping depending on the week. My process has always been:
Make the weekly menu
Build the list based on the menu
Organize the list by the store layout
Efficient, right? Sure. But the time suck was always finding meals that fit our diet, budget, and busy schedule. That’s where AI comes in.

Using AI as Your Personal Dietician
Here’s the secret: talk to AI like you’re talking to an expert. If you want it to act like a dietician, give it the same information you’d give a dietician. Things like:
Age and weight of who you’re feeding
Diet restrictions or preferences
How many people you’re feeding
Number of meals you want planned
Prep and cook time limits
Food goals (high protein, low calorie, more veggies, etc.)
Budget
Store you shop at
The more details you give, the better the results. Not only will AI generate a full week of menu options, it’ll also create a printable grocery list and step-by-step cooking instructions. I even ask it for one big lunch option I can meal prep on Sunday for my husband and me.
Step-By-Step: How to Do It Yourself
Go to ChatGPT (or whatever AI tool you prefer) and make an account so it starts learning your preferences.
Type in your prompt. Here’s an example you can tweak:
Provide me a 5-day weekly dinner meal plan for my family of four: A 38-year-old woman (145 lbs, 5’8”), a 40-year-old man (235 lbs, 5’11”), a 6-year-old boy, and an 8-year-old girl. Meals should be high in protein, Weight Watchers friendly, and take less than 45 minutes to cook. Keep the grocery bill around $200 for the week, shopping at Aldi. Also, give me a Sunday-prep lunch option for two adults that lasts five days, takes less than 45 minutes to prepare, and can be easily packed each night. Don’t forget to include staples like milk, fruit, and veggies in the grocery list.
Read the results. Tell the AI what to adjust. Talk to it like a person until you land on something that fits.
Ask it to add your common items to the final list. Then request a printable version of the grocery list and separate instruction sheets for each meal.
That’s it. Simple, repeatable, efficient.

Want to Save Even More Time?
If you’d rather skip the back-and-forth and just want a quick system, I made a weekly grocery list template you can grab [here for just $2]. It’s easy to fill in with your own meals and items, and I trim the top part off mine to stick on the fridge for quick reference during the week.
